Character | Mandarin Pronunciation | Meaning in English |
飞 | fēi | to fly |
Stroke Order (3): héng xié gōu + piě + diǎn |
Notice here that the piě and diǎn strokes are technically considered separate, although you can (and probably will) draw this character without picking up your pen between them.
Here's another common character:

风 | fēng | wind |
Stroke Order (2): shù piě + héng xié gōu + piě + diǎn |
Here's a common character that appears in a lot of frequently-used words in Chinese:
Character | Mandarin Pronunciation | Meaning in English |
气 | qì | breath, vital energy |
Stroke Order (4): piě + héng + héng + héng xié gōu |
This is a relatively rare example of a Chinese word that, in its meaning as "vital energy," has been officially adopted into English using its pinyin, to the great exultation of Scrabble players everywhere!
